Advantage of Volume Scanning Video Disdrometer in Solid-Precipitation Observation

This study developed a volume scan-type disdrometer and investigated the size distribution of solid-precipitation particles observed by flux- volume-scan type disdrometers, installed in 2016-2017 winter Sapporo, Japan. The former detected particles, line sensors, which frequency is proportional to particle number per area. On other hand, latter directly using an image sensor. flux-scan data are known have bias more higher-speed (or larger-size) but this was hardly corrected due error estimated particles' velocity. It first validated that could observe between 0.5 mm 13 mm, consistently with flux one. Then, we examined how many events showed difference two disdrometers Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. result 84% total fell into class where they were significantly different, partially fast-falling graupels.
